Why NWI is the next milestone in your business

Year-over-year, the Northwestern Indiana region has experienced population growth, and as more people move to the area, it leads to an increase in opportunities to reach potentially untapped markets and new customers. Plus, Indiana offers lower business taxes and is, in general, known to be a business-friendly state.

The region isn’t just for local small businesses, either. NWI is home to many global companies, making it a great option for large enterprises, too. From advanced manufacturing, logistics and distribution to food and beverage manufacturing, agribusiness and information technology, NWI plays host to many large industry sectors.

Be a part of the growth. Bring your business — big or small — to the NWI region.

Economic Development for a Growing Economy (EDGE) - Payroll Tax Credit

With the EDGE Tax Credit, businesses receive an incentive to support job creation and capital investment and contribute to the great standard of living for Indiana residents. This is a refundable corporate income tax credit that is calculated as a percentage (not to exceed 100%) of the expected increased tax withholdings that are generated from new job creation. The credit is phased in annually for up to 10 years.

Hoosier Business Investment (HBI) Tax Credit

With the HBI Tax Credit, businesses receive an incentive to support job creation and capital investment and contribute to the great standard of living for Indiana residents. This is a nonrefundable corporate income tax credit that is calculated as a percentage of the eligible capital investment to support the project. The credit can be certified annually over a period of two years from the start of the project.

Industrial Recovery Tax Credit

Also known as the DINO tax credit as it benefits older buildings, the Industrial Recovery Tax Credit incentivizes companies to invest in former industrial facilities that require significant rehabilitation or remodeling expenses.

Skills Enhancement Fund (SEF) – Workforce Training Grant

SEF provides assistance to businesses to support training and upgrading the skills of employees that are required to support new capital investment. This grant can reimburse a portion of eligible training costs over two years from the start of the project.

Industrial Development Grant Fund (IDGF)

Municipalities and other eligible entities that require off-site infrastructure improvements can receive assistance with the IDGF. After review and approval of the application, project milestones are established for completing the improvements, and IDGF will reimburse a portion of the actual total costs. Assistance is paid as each milestone is achieved until the project is complete.

Venture Capital Investment Tax Credit (VCI)

For fast-growing Indiana companies, the VCI improves access to capital by providing individual and corporate investors an additional incentive to invest early. Investors who provide qualified debt or equity capital to these Indiana companies receive a credit against their Indiana tax liability.
